Introduction - Seoul in the Spring of 1953
This is background for a slide show of Seoul city and its people in the Spring of 1953.
Captain Robert J. Hasselbring was an Army engineer and participated as a company commander of the 840th Engineer Aviation Brigade in the construction of K-55. You can read his brief introduction below, or go straight to the slide show.
"The enclosed pictures were taken after the 840th EAB had finished our work at K-55. We moved to a muddy plot at the edge of Seoul with orders to prepare some tropical hut-type buildings for a planned Air Force school of some sort. For each picture, I will try to describe what is depicted."

For those who haven't see the Construction of K-55 slide show, you should see that first, then see this to better understand the hardships that Bob and other engineers went through to make the war and the peace (armistice, actually) easier for those who came after. And what makes it even more amazing is the overwhelmingly positive attitude towards Korea and the Koreans that Bob displays in his comments.
