Feedback hear ye, hear ye, hear ye
Feedback contains information on updates and some background information that might be of interest to some readers. It also has comments from web site readers that might have wider interest than just to me. To that end, and to possibly prevent having to respond to the same questions and comments again and again, this page provides responses that answer some of your questions, even some you've not yet asked. Be forewarned that I write for enjoyment as well as for enlightenment, and hope that you'll appreciate my humor. If not, then send me a comment and maybe I'll post it here. Or maybe not.

As with other areas where I post items of interest, I'll include dates and have the newest first so you don't have to go scrolling through a lot of "old news" (is that an oxymoron?). To speed up page loading, entries have been divided by year, with larger years' entries split.

June 1, 2010 – Around Osan; MRAO Neighborhood
Updates to the web site have been kind of slow lately. A lot of my time from the beginning of the year has been devoted to casualty assistance and that takes time to be done properly. I was out a few times with the camera, but didn't take many pictures until this past weekend.

Around Osan: On April 11, I took a picture of these flowers starting to bloom on Hill 180. A week later, the same flower beds had really filled out. That weekend, folks were out in shorts. Near the main gate was a beautiful display of Cherry Blossoms near the main gate. There were more near Building 736 as well as a pink magnolia nearby. Speaking of magnolia trees, here's one on Hill 180. And just to confirm that blossoming wasn't limited to the decorative flowers, here are some dandelions here and here. I didn't get out with the camera again until this past weekend.

This past weekend, I got a shot of the Old CE area's disappeared building. Nearby, the ROKAF weather squadron building is undergoing extensive renovation. Here's a worker cutting up scrap metal with a torch, but without eye protection. The building itself now looks like this and this. And here some old equipment pulled out of it.

MRAO Neighborhood: In our neighborhood, where we have mostly asphalt and concrete, there are not many flowers. However, we do have motorcycles coming out and congregating at the J-Rider motorcycle accessories shop across from the MRAO. One of the things that I notice on the Korean-owned motorcycles (lower left three and upper right one) is that the owners like to hang a lot of doodads off the big machines. (The other two less-decorated machines belong to the shop.)

May 9, 2010 – Health Care Web Sites Verified; Loyalty Day Parade
I took some time to review the Health Care Web Sites page and found all links remain valid. I use a handy tool called Link Checker that took 162.09 seconds to complete the verification. It's a free service provided by the W3 (World-Wide Web) organization. If you operate a web site, this is a handy tool, as are the other tools provided by W3. The Health Care Web Sites page is also a handy tool, IMHO. Have you checked it out?

Loyalty Day Parade: In previous years at about this time, I'd be putting up photos of the Loyalty Day Parade hosted by Osan AB and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10216. This year I didn't take photos; instead I marched with the other members of Post 10216, having joined the VFW as a member of Post 10216 last summer.

If anyone who took photos of the parade would like to provide them to me, I'll be happy to create a slide show for the web site. Send them to mrao@rao-osan.com I prefer the photos sized to 1024x768, but any size is preferable to no photos. Thanks.

Note: The navigation menu (above) to previous years' Feedback entries has been updated (and corrected where necessary), finally.

March 28, 2010 – Newsletter Correction; Around Osan
I was working on the April newsletter this weekend and discovered an error in the 'Subscribing and Unsubscribing' section at the bottom of the newsletter. Somehow, when I created the 2010 series of newsletters, I had regressed the instructions to the old method of subscribing that was no longer valid. All three of the newsletters posted on the web site have been corrected. If you tried to subscribe or unsubscribe using one of those newsletters and received an error, it was my fault. Sorry!

I took a walk around with the camera today, enjoying the reasonably decent weather. In addition to the construction photos noted in 'What's New', I also noted the Elementary School road construction. I think it may be preparation for installing a sidewalk or two. We'll keep track of it. On Hill 180, I noted the spring flowers have started appearing. Also on Hill 180, I wonder if the owner of this car will notice the rear tire going flat. And finally, in the Jan 7 Feedback below, I mentioned our new neighbor, J-Rider. Coming out the gate, I noted a gathering of likely customers of that shop at the Mall entrance.

March 1, 2010 – March Newsletter Delivery
The March newsletter was completed on Feb 28 and I started sending it. The program was not acting the same as it did in previous months. The hosting service has been having problems with the data base service (MySQL) and the data base hold the list of addressees to whom the newsletter is sent.

Although the program seemed to terminate normally when it reported the completion of the send process, I'm not sure that all the retirees received an e-mail newsletter. If you'd like to report a problem about receiving the March newsletter (or not receiving it when you are supposed to) please e-mail Newsletter@rao-osan.com. Not everyone needs to respond, but I'd like to get a sampling.

January 7, 2010 – Osan's Third Snow of the Season; New Neighbor
Snow started falling in the evening of Jan 3. By the next morning, there had been quite an accumulation as seen here and here. Even as the snow continued, shop owners were out early clearing the snow. By Jan 6, the base had clear roads and mostly clear sidewalks as seen here.

The Military Retiree Assistance Office has a new neighbor across the way. The shop was open for business on Jan 2 selling motorcycle accessories such as clothing, helmets and other items. On Jan 4, the shop was snowed in along with the rest of us. The local bird population took advantage of the new shop by enjoying the new perches that had been provided. This is a good location for the birds to see whether Punee had scattered rice for them in front of the MRAO.
