Remarks: See history of the Tripler Fisher House at the end of this document. For active duty and retired personnel from all services who are stationed off-island. There are 7 suites, 2 of which are handicapped accessible. The house is comfortably furnished with a common kitchen, laundry room, spacious dining room and inviting living room with a library and toys for children. Many of the Fisher House guests are cancer patients with family. Fisher House Referral Form (not included) can be faxed to 808-433-3619.

Tripler AMC Guest Quarters

Remarks: Military personnel on orders have first priority. For space available, (which is very difficult to obtain) you must come to the billeting office front desk at 1400 hours each day to check on availability of quarters (first come, first served). All suites are one bedroom, maximum of 4 people to a suite. Suites are equipped with microwave, small refrigerator, TV/VCR and 1 bed, rollaway beds are available.

Hickam AFB Billeting Office

Remarks: You can sign up for space available starting at 0600 each day. At 1800 each day they give out the available rooms. If you get a room, it is normally for three days with a possible one day extension. If you sign up at 0600 and are first or second on the space available list, chances are good that you will be assigned a room.

Tripler Fisher House

Overview: The Tripler Fisher House is a "home away from home" for families and patients receiving medical care at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, HI. Families served are from the Pacific area, mainly Korea, Japan, Okinawa, and Guam. Active duty and retired persons from all services are helped in their time of need. The Fisher House is nestled on a hillside north of the hospital half a mile. There are a total of 25 Fisher Houses located on 16 military installations and four VA medical centers.

Description: The house is a comfortably furnished home donated by Zachary and Elizabeth M. Fisher of New York. Our house is designed to give 7-8 suites, two of which are handicapped accessible. It can accommodate up to 16 family members. It also features a common kitchen, laundry room, spacious dining room and inviting living room with a library and toys for children. Tripler Fisher House is a temporary residence and not a treatment facility, hospice or counseling center.

Eligibility and Cost: Tripler Fisher House helps retired and active duty personnel from all services who are stationed off-island. The cost is $10.00 per night. We do not take reservations, but work through the Social Works Department referrals and direct contact. Upon arrival at Tripler Army Medical hospital you will be seen by a social worker if you are an inpatient, or you can call the Manager, Kathy Gregory at 433-1291 ext. 28.

Volunteers: Tripler Fisher House has a full-time manager, but depends on volunteers and voluntary support to enhance daily operations. All the military on Oahu support the Tripler Fisher House with meals brought in for the residents, donations, visits, trips to the commissary or BX, and many other acts of kindness and generosity which are greatly appreciated by those away from their personal support system. It is truly a wonderful example of the 'military family' concept of helping those who need our help because we care. To volunteer call Kathy Gregory at 433-1291 ext 28.
