The 2003 annual membership meeting of the United States Military Retirees Association was held on Saturday, December 13, 2003 from 1000-1200 at the Multi-Function Facility on Yongsan South Post (also known as the South Post Theater) across from the Elementary School. Attendance was less than expected or hoped for with no more than 15 retirees and spouses in attendance.
The guest speaker was Brigadier General John A. Macdonald, director of the Installation Management Agency, Korea Regional Office of the (IMA-KORO). He was accompanied by Command Sergeant Major John M. Sanders. BG Macdonald gave a most informative one-hour briefing on KORO's mission and accomplishments to date, followed by a question and answer period. Korea retirees can expect to see more retiree-oriented actions as KORO support to the retiree community expands. (BG Macdonald's briefing is not posted here. If you missed it, sorry.)
Jack Terwiel of the Osan AB Retiree Activities Office provided a on the newly-enacted Concurrent Receipt and changes that expand Combat-Related Special Compensation, and a handout comparing CR and CRSC.
Election of Officers was also conducted. Al Chellis, who has served the association for five years stepped down as USMRAK President. Wnd Thomas moved up from Secretary to President; Richard Boyce was re-elected Vice President; and Matt Brown was elected Secretary. But these officers cannot do all that needs to be done — nor should they be expected to do it all. The USMRAK needs your support if we want retiree living in Korea to improve as a result of command support to retirees.
